Samarinda

Samarinda is the capital city of East Kalimantan, a province in Indonesia. It is situated on the riverbanks of the lower Mahakam River, with various sections connected by infrastructure including the Mahakam Bridge, Mahakam Ulu Bridge, and Achmad Amins Bridge.

The city ranks as the seventh largest Indonesian city by area, covering approximately 718 km² (277 sq mi). It is currently the most populous city on the island of Borneo, with population estimates ranging between 727,500 and 865,306. As of 2026, Samarinda is organized into 10 districts and 59 urban villages.
