Kerang is a town situated on the Loddon River in north-central Victoria, Australia. Located approximately 279 kilometres northwest of Melbourne, it sits at an elevation of 78 metres. The town serves as the commercial centre for an irrigation district that supports various industries, including livestock, horticulture, grain, and lucerne.
The name Kerang is believed to be an Aboriginal word meaning Cockatoo. In recent years, the area has become notable for hosting Australia's largest solar and battery farm, which opened in June 2019. This facility features a 50-megawatt battery system that stores 100 per cent renewable energy from 2,000 solar panels, which have become a local tourist attraction.
