Balikpapan is a seaport city located in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Situated on the east coast of the island of Borneo, it serves as the financial center of the Kalimantan region.
The city is the second most populous urban area in East Kalimantan, following Samarinda. According to the 2020 census, Balikpapan had a population of 688,318, with an official estimate rising to 757,418 by mid-2023.
