Sampit is a large town located in the East Kotawaringin Regency within the Central Kalimantan Province of Indonesia. While it possesses a significant population and substantial urban development, it is not an autonomous city or a standalone administrative division.
Historically established as a timber port town situated on the Sampit River, the community has evolved over time. As of 2019, Statistics Indonesia recorded the town's population at 166,773. The local economy has since divested from its original reliance on timber products.
