Tanta is a city located in Egypt, situated between the major cities of Cairo and Alexandria. It lies approximately 94 km (58 mi) north of Cairo and 130 km (81 mi) southeast of Alexandria.
As the capital of the Gharbia Governorate, Tanta is a significant urban center with a population of 530,000 as of 2024. This population ranking makes it the seventh most populous city in Egypt. The city is notably recognized as a primary hub for the cotton-ginning industry.
