Banjarbaru

Banjarbaru is the capital city of South Kalimantan, a province located in Indonesia. It is situated approximately 35 kilometers southeast of Banjarmasin, which serves as the largest city in the province. The city is also recognized as the second-largest city in South Kalimantan and is an integral part of the Banjarbakula metropolitan area.

The population of Banjarbaru has grown steadily over recent decades, with records showing 199,627 residents in 2010 and 253,442 in 2020. Current estimates place the population at approximately 293,332 as of mid-2025. The city is closely linked to the large town of Martapura, which lies immediately to its north; due to its proximity and size, Martapura effectively functions as an extension of Banjarbaru.
