Bakau is a town located on the Atlantic coast of The Gambia, situated west of the capital city, Banjul. It serves as the first major suburb outside of Banjul and is recognized as the most developed town in the country.
The area is notable for its botanical gardens and the crocodile pool known as Bakau Kachikally. Additionally, it features beaches at Cape Point. The town is located near Serekunda, which is the largest city in The Gambia.
