The term Tayan is also associated with the Atayal, who are an indigenous people of Taiwan. They represent approximately 15.9% of Taiwan's total indigenous population and are recognized as the third-largest indigenous group in the region. While "Atayal" is the official English translation used by the Taiwanese government, "Tayal" is their preferred endonym.
