Yogyakarta is the capital city of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, located in the south-central part of the island of Java in Indonesia. It holds a unique political status as the only Indonesian royal city that remains under the rule of a monarchy.
The city is recognized as a significant center for classical Javanese fine arts and culture, including ballet, batik textiles, drama, literature, music, poetry, silversmithing, visual arts, and wayang puppetry. Additionally, Yogyakarta is a prominent hub for Indonesian education, hosting a large student population and numerous schools and universities, such as Gadjah Mada University.
