Wonosari is the administrative center of the Gunungkidul Regency, located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta on the island of Java, Indonesia. The district (kapanewon) of Wonosari serves as a central hub for the surrounding region.
The area is bordered by several districts: Nglipar to the north, Karangmojo and Semanu to the east, Tanjungsari to the south, and Paliyan and Playen to the west. According to the 2020 Census, Wonosari had a population of 87,454 residents.
