Timur, also known as Tamerlane, was a Turco-Mongol conqueror who served as the first ruler of the Timurid dynasty. He founded the Timurid Empire, which governed territories across modern-day Afghanistan, Iran, and Central Asia.
Recognized as one of history's greatest military leaders and tacticians, Timur was undefeated in battle, though he was also noted for his extreme brutality. Beyond his military conquests, he was a significant patron of the arts who interacted with prominent scholars and poets, including ibn Khaldun and Hafez. His reign is credited with initiating the Timurid Renaissance.
