Sumenep

Sumenep Regency, also known as Samanap or Zamanap, is a regency located in the East Java province of Indonesia. It covers a total land area of 2,093.50 square kilometres and had a recorded population of 1,150,574 as of mid-2025.

The administrative capital of the regency is Kota Sumenep. The region has undergone various historical name changes over the centuries, having been briefly referred to as Sungeneb in the 13th century, Purwareja in the 15th century, and Sumekar in the 16th century.
