Probolinggo is a city located on the north coast of the East Java province in Indonesia. It covers a total area of 56.676 square kilometers and serves as an urban center within the region.
The city is surrounded on its landward side by the Probolinggo Regency, which previously served as the regency's capital but no longer includes the city itself. According to census data, the population grew from 217,062 in 2010 to an estimated 243,746 by mid-2024.
