Penanggal

Indonesia

The Penanggalan, also known as the penanggal, is a nocturnal vampiric entity originating from Malay ghost myths. It is characterized by its unique physical form, appearing as a floating disembodied woman's head with its internal organs and entrails trailing from the neck.

In folklore, the creature is said to twinkle in the distance like a ball of flame, a description often compared to the will-o'-the-wisp phenomenon. While it is a prominent figure in regional mythology, there is no geographical location associated with it as a city or physical landmark.
