Madiun is a city located in the western part of East Java, Indonesia. It serves as a significant agricultural center within the region.
The city has been administratively separate from the surrounding Madiun Regency since 1950; however, it remained the seat of the regency administration until 2010. In Indonesian, the city is commonly known by the acronym "Kota Gadis," which stands for Trading, Education and Industrial City. It is also sometimes referred to as Milaan van Java in Dutch.
