Gowa

Gowa is a regency located in the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It covers a total area of 1,883.33 km2 and serves as a significant geographic region adjacent to the city of Makassar.

The majority of the regency lies within the official metropolitan area of Makassar, encompassing many of its landward suburbs. The administrative capital of Gowa is Sungguminasa. While much of the territory is urbanized, the eastern non-metropolitan portion of the regency features the hill resort of Malino.

Demographic data shows a growing population in the region, which was recorded at 652,329 during the 2010 census and reached an official estimate of 841,730 by mid-2025.
