Dares Phrygius (also known as Dares of Phrygia) was an individual mentioned in the works of Homer as a Trojan priest of the god Hephaestus. Historical tradition also identifies him as the author of a narrative detailing the destruction of Troy.
A Latin work titled Daretis Phrygii de excidio Troiae historia, which purports to be a translation of his account, was widely read during the Middle Ages. While this text was once attributed to Cornelius Nepos and dedicated to Sallust, linguistic analysis suggests the language belongs to a period significantly later than the time of Nepos.
