Tegal is a city located in the northwest region of Central Java, Indonesia. It is situated along the north coast of the province, approximately 175 km (109 mi) from Semarang, which serves as the provincial capital.
The city's population has grown steadily over recent decades. According to census data, the population was 239,599 in 2010 and reached 273,825 by 2020, with an official estimate of approximately 297,173 as of mid-2025.
