Pekalongan is an independent municipality located on the northern coast of Central Java, Indonesia. It formerly served as the seat of the Pekalongan Regency before becoming a separate administrative entity within the province. The city covers a land area of 45.25 square kilometers.
The city serves as the most important port in Central Java and is widely recognized for its batik production. Due to this cultural significance, Pekalongan became the first Southeast Asian city to be included in UNESCO's World's Creative Cities Network in December 2014.
