Sungai Penuh is a city located in the Jambi province of Sumatra, Indonesia. It functions as an enclave within the Kerinci Regency, having become administratively separate from the regency on June 24, 2008. The city covers a total area of 364.92 km2.
Historically, Sungai Penuh served as the administrative center for the entire Kerinci highlands region during the Dutch colonial era. It remains an important urban hub today, serving as one of only two cities in Jambi and representing the largest settlement in the western part of the province.
Demographic data shows steady growth in the city's population over recent decades. The 2010 Census recorded a population of 82,293, which rose to 96,610 by the 2020 Census, with an official estimate reaching approximately 102,224 as of mid-2024.
