Jambi is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of Jambi, situated on the island of Sumatra. It serves as a significant regional hub for commerce and industry, specifically functioning as an oil- and rubber-producing center.
The city is positioned as a busy port along the Batang Hari River. It is located approximately 26 km (16 mi) from the ruins of the Muaro Jambi Temple Compounds, which were part of an important ancient city within the Srivijaya kingdom.
