Bireun is a town located in the Aceh Special Territory of Sumatra, Indonesia. It serves as the administrative seat of the Bireuën Regency and is situated at the geographic coordinates 5°12′18″N 96°42′06″E.
The town covers a total area of 16.91 km2. According to census data, its population grew from 44,604 in 2010 to 47,670 in 2020, with an official mid-2022 estimate of 47,983 residents.
