Szombathely is a city located in western Hungary, situated near the border with Austria. It serves as the administrative center of Vas County and lies at the geographical meeting point of the Alpokalja mountains and the Little Hungarian Plain, positioned by the Perint and Gyöngyös streams.

As the oldest city in Hungary, Szombathely has a population of approximately 78,000 inhabitants, ranking it as the tenth most populous city in the country. The city is historically significant as the recognized birthplace of Saint Martin of Tours.
