Heves is a small town located in eastern Hungary. Situated approximately 100 km east of Budapest, it lies at the northern extreme of the Great Hungarian Plain, positioned just south of the Mátra and Bükk hills and west of the Tisza River.

The town serves as the namesake for Heves County, although it is not the county seat and ranks as its fourth largest town. It functions as a significant transportation hub for the agricultural areas and towns located in southern Heves County. The nearest major city to Heves is Eger, which is located 40 km to the north.
