Gyongyos

Gyöngyös is a town located in Heves County, Hungary. It is situated beside the Gyöngyös creek and lies under the Mátra mountain ranges. As of the 2022 census, the town has a population of 27,957 people.

The town is positioned approximately 80.8 km from Budapest and 8.4 km from the M3 motorway. It serves as a transportation hub where main road 3 crosses the town and it acts as the terminus for the Vámosgyörk–Gyöngyös railway line.

In addition to its standard-gauge railway station, Gyöngyös is the starting point for two narrow-gauge railway lines belonging to the Gyöngyös State Forest Railway. These lines transport tourists from the town into the surrounding mountains.
