Debrecen

Hungary

Debrecen is a city located in Hungary and serves as the regional center of the Northern Great Plain region. It is the seat of Hajdú-Bihar County and holds status as a city with county rights. As Hungary's second-largest city after Budapest, it was historically significant as the largest Hungarian city during the 18th century.

The city is recognized as one of the most important cultural centers for the Hungarian people and is home to the University of Debrecen. Historically, it served as the capital of Hungary twice: first during the revolution of 1848–1849, where the dethronement of the Habsburg dynasty was declared in the Reformed Great Church, and again from 1944–1945 at the end of World War II.
