Dunaújváros is an industrial city with county rights located in Fejér County in Central Hungary. Situated on the Danube River, the city lies approximately 70 kilometres south of the capital, Budapest.
The city was constructed in the 1950s on the site of the former village of Dunapentele. It was originally named Sztálinváros before being renamed Dunaújváros in 1961. Historically, the area was known as Rácpentele during the 17th century, a name derived from the large population of Serbs (Rács) who inhabited the village under Ottoman rule.
Dunaújváros is primarily recognized for its steelworks, which constitute the largest steel production facility in Hungary. The city serves as a major industrial hub within the region.
