Újpest is the 4th District of Budapest, Hungary. It is situated on the left bank of the Danube River and derives its name from "New Pest," reflecting its historical formation on the border of the city of Pest in 1838.
Originally a village for sixty years, Újpest was officially designated as a town in 1907. In 1950, it was unified with Budapest to form Greater Budapest, at which point it became the city's 4th District.
