Buda is a district located on the western bank of the Danube River in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. Historically, the name referred specifically to the royal walled city situated on Castle Hill.
The fortifications of Buda were constructed by Béla IV between 1247 and 1249. The area served as the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary from 1361 until 1873. In that year, Buda was administratively unified with Pest and Óbuda to form the modern city of Budapest.
