Miragoâne is a coastal commune located in western Haiti. It serves as the capital of the Nippes department and functions as the headquarters for the Miragoâne Arrondissement.
The city is recognized as one of the primary ports for the trade of used goods within the country. Bales containing items such as clothing, shoes, appliances, and vehicles arrive at the port from Miami and other cities across the United States. Local merchants in the informal sector purchase these bales to sort and resell the merchandise in street markets, facilitating the distribution of inexpensive goods throughout Haiti.
