Hvar is a Croatian island situated in the Adriatic Sea off the Dalmatian coast. It lies between the islands of Brač, Vis, and Korčula, spanning approximately 68 kilometres (42.25 mi) in length. The island features a high east–west ridge composed of Mesozoic limestone and dolomite.
The island is notable for its large fertile coastal plain and fresh water springs, which are unusual characteristics for the surrounding area. Its agricultural landscape includes pine forests on the hillsides alongside vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards, and lavender fields. The region experiences a climate of mild winters and warm summers with significant sunshine.
According to the 2021 census, Hvar has a population of 10,678 residents, making it the fourth most populated island in Croatia.
