Čakovec is a city located in Northern Croatia, situated approximately 90 kilometres north of the capital, Zagreb. It lies near the national borders with Slovenia and Hungary and is positioned centrally within the lowland area of its region along the Trnava river.
The city serves as the county seat and is the largest urban center of Međimurje County. This region is characterized as the northernmost, smallest, and most densely populated county in Croatia.
