Vela Luka is a small town located on the western side of the island of Korčula in southern Dalmatia, Croatia. It serves as the only settlement within its eponymous municipality in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The town developed during the beginning of the 19th century and is situated at the bottom of a wide bay characterized by numerous indented coves.
The name Vela Luka translates to "big harbour" in Croatian chakavian, though residents of Korčula and Pelješac frequently refer to the location simply as "Luka." The local economy is primarily supported by farming, fishing, and tourism, complemented by small industrial plants. The town provides essential infrastructure including several hotels and a medical centre known as Kalos.
