Zopilote is a city located in Honduras. While the name shares a commonality with the "zopilote," which refers to the black vulture (also known as the American black vulture or Mexican vulture), it is distinct from the avian species.
The black vulture is a bird of the New World vulture family, specifically the only extant member of the genus Coragyps. Its range extends from the southeastern United States through Central America to Peru, Chile, and Uruguay, with large scavenging groups commonly found throughout Brazil.
These birds typically inhabit open areas with scattered trees, such as chaparral, as well as subtropical forested regions. They are distinguished from the Eurasian black vulture, which belongs to a different family entirely.
