Yucatán, officially known as the Free and Sovereign State of Yucatán, is one of the 31 states that, along with Mexico City, make up the 32 federal entities of Mexico. It serves as a significant administrative region within the country.
The state comprises 106 separate municipalities and is governed from its capital city, Mérida. While it is a major Mexican state, it should not be confused with other geographical locations sharing similar names in different regions.
