Olanchito is a municipality located in the department of Yoro in Honduras. Situated approximately 107 miles (172 km) northeast of the national capital, Tegucigalpa, it operates within the Central Time Zone with a UTC offset of -6 hours. The municipality was founded in 1530 and currently encompasses 70 villages and roughly 300 hamlets.
The town serves as an important agricultural hub and is known locally as the Civic City. It holds significant cultural importance as the birthplace of several prominent Honduran literary figures, including Ramón Amaya Amador. The city preserves a collection of Amador's manuscripts, books, writing table, and ashes.
As of 2023, the town itself has a population of 49,750, while the broader municipality maintains a total population of 124,286.
