Comayagua is a city and municipality located in the Comayagua Department region of Honduras. It serves as the former capital of the country and is situated at an elevation of 594 meters (1,949 feet) above sea level.
The city is positioned approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Tegucigalpa along the highway leading to San Pedro Sula. It remains a notable geographic point within the department due to its historical status as the nation's old capital.
