Hong Kong Island is an island located in the southern part of Hong Kong. It serves as one of the three primary administrative areas of the region, alongside Kowloon and the New Territories. The island was originally known simply as Hong Kong.
Covering a land area of approximately 78.59 square kilometres (30.34 sq mi), it is the second largest island in Hong Kong, following Lantau Island. As of 2023, the island has a population of 1,289,500, resulting in a population density of 16,390 per square kilometre (42,400/sq mi).
