Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China located on the country's southern coast, situated just south of Shenzhen. The territory covers an area of 1,114 square kilometres (430 sq mi) and is composed of three main geographical areas: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories.
The region has a population of approximately 7.5 million residents. Due to its high population relative to its land area, Hong Kong ranks as the fourth-most densely populated region in the world.
