Estanzuela is a small municipality located in the department of Zacapa in Guatemala. It originated as a passing point for Spanish explorers who were traveling westward toward the ocean.
The settlement was established when a group of Spaniards chose to rest at the location, identifying the surrounding land as suitable for harvesting. Originally known as "La Estancia," the town's name evolved from the diminutive "La Estanzuelita." The term translates to "resting place," which reflects its historical origins as a site for travelers.
