Pajapita is a town and municipality located in the San Marcos department of Guatemala. It was officially established on May 31, 1920, following the construction of the Vado Ancho station on the Panamerican Railroad of Guatemala.
The town experienced significant development during the period when the Guatemalan railways were owned by the International Railways of Central America (IRCA), an American company affiliated with the United Fruit Company. Its growth was driven by its strategic location along the route between Guatemala and Mexico.
Following the construction of major highways throughout the country, the importance of the rail line declined. This led to a significant decrease in the town's prominence, resulting in the complete abandonment of Vado Ancho in the early 21st century.
