Esquipulas Palo Gordo is a town and municipality located in the San Marcos department of Guatemala. The settlement was officially founded on December 24, 1826.
The administrative history of the municipality includes a period of integration with San Marcos during the 1920s. However, Esquipulas Palo Gordo regained its autonomy as an independent entity in 1948.
