Comitancillo

Guatemala

Comitancillo is a town and municipality located in the San Marcos department of Guatemala. The region is characterized by a bilingual population where both Spanish and Mam are spoken.

The municipality was established by Spanish settlers between 1633 and 1648. It is home to the archaeological site of Chipel, which contains remains associated with the Mam culture.
