Guatemala

Uspantán is a municipality located in the department of El Quiché in Guatemala. It is recognized as one of the largest municipalities within the region, characterized by diverse geography that stretches from the mountainous highlands in the south to the tropical lowlands in the north.

The municipal seat is Villa de San Miguel Uspantán, which has a population of approximately 2,800. The municipality is notable as the location of Laj Chimel, the community where Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú was born.
