Chinique is a municipality located in the department of El Quiché in Guatemala. The name originates from the Kʼicheʼ language phrase «chinic´aj taka´aj». As of 2023, the municipality has a recorded population of 14,052 residents.
Historical accounts describe Chinique as a small settlement consisting of houses constructed from adobe with thatched roofs. These observations were documented in 1892 by Alfred Maudslay and his wife, Anne.
