Malacatancito is a mostly rural municipality located in the department of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. It covers a total area of 312.4 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 23,359 as of 2023.
The local population is primarily of Ladino and Maya descent, with Spanish and Kʼicheʼ serving as the primary mother tongues. The region is characterized by a warm, low-humidity subtropical highland climate that experiences significant seasonal variations in cloud cover and precipitation between its distinct wet and dry seasons.
The municipal government is currently led by Mayor Irma Elizabeth Ávila Alvarado of the Vamos party, who has held the position since her election in 2019.
