San José Pinula is a municipality located in the Department of Guatemala within the Republic of Guatemala in Central America. Situated approximately 21 kilometers from the capital city of Guatemala City, the town is characterized by its surrounding mountain landscape.
Established in 1886 as Villorio San José, the area historically maintained an economy based on agriculture, specifically the cultivation of corn and vegetables such as guisquil, chayote, and pataste. In recent years, the expansion of Guatemala City has led to a significant transformation of local farmland into suburban neighborhoods.
The region is currently notable for its high-end recreational facilities, including world-class golf courses. These include the Alta Vista Country Club and the Hacienda Nueva Country Club, the latter of which was originally a 16th-century convent.
