Esquipulas, officially known as the Municipality of Esquipulas, is a town located in the department of Chiquimula in eastern Guatemala. Originally named Yzquipulas, the municipality currently has a population of 18,667 residents.
The town serves as an important center for Catholic pilgrimage in Central America due to its main attraction, the Black Christ located within the Basilica of Esquipulas. It is recognized as one of the most significant towns in Guatemala, noted for experiencing substantial economic and cultural growth.
