Zoodochos is a Greek term translating to "life-receiving." In the context of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, it primarily refers to an attribute of the tomb of Christ, known as the Zoodochos Taphos. This site serves as a significant symbol of the Resurrection within the faith.
The title zoodochos is also occasionally applied to the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary). This application is based on church tradition which teaches that she received the Life of Christ in her womb. Additionally, the Church of St. Mary of the Spring in Istanbul is named Zoödochos Pege and is dedicated to the Virgin.
