Kissamos is a town and municipality located in the western region of the Greek island of Crete. It serves as the administrative center of its namesake municipality and is situated within the Chania regional unit, specifically covering the northwest corner of the island.
The town is frequently referred to as Kastelli Kissamou or simply Kastelli, a name derived from the Venetian castle once located on the site. Today, it functions as a port and fishing harbor that hosts regular ferry services connecting to the Peloponnese via Kythira. The area is home to a town museum housed in the old Venetian governor's palace.
Historically, the location has yielded significant archaeological discoveries, including fine mosaics dating back to the Roman city of Kisamos. These findings highlight the long-standing historical significance of the settlement within the region.
